The VanGuard is the award-winning magazine of the Vecellio Group
Distributed to approximately 3,000 current and past employees, customers, government officials, and members of the media throughout the southeastern Atlantic states. The magazine is published three times a year and provides insight into the various Vecellio Group, Inc. businesses, their projects, and employees. Q4 2024
Vecellio & Grogan, a sister company of Ranger Construction and a division of the Vecellio Group, has completed more than seven miles of bypass in Rockingham, N.C. The project is part of a new four-lane, median-divided freeway, and required 7.3 million cubic yards of excavation. The issue includes an update on a new pedestrian bridge by in Tampa, FL, announcement of slogan contest to promote safety awareness, and a description of Ranger Construction’s Toys For Tots program in central FL.
Also in this issue, 2024 Employee Service Award recipients with 20, 30 and 40 years of service are identified. These team members are the key to our companies’ continued success. All valued team members for our various businesses are also listed in the back of the issue.
Q3 2024
Hal Jones Contractor, a Vecellio Group company, is working with the City of Jacksonville to replace 850 ft. of bulkhead and rebuilding the marina at the Jacksonville Shipyards. The work is part of a larger redevelopment effort in downtown Jacksonville that will include a Four Seasons Hotel and a residential area with single family homes and townhomes.
The issue includes a story on the one-millionth fuel shipment for Vecenergy from the Port Everglades facility, a new runway project at Palm Beach International Airport for Ranger Construction, and the development of a new pedestrian bridge by Vecellio & Grogan in Tampa, FL.
Q1/Q2 2024
Vecellio & Grogan is replacing a 1,123 ft.-long bridge over the Simpson River along US 90 in Pensacola, FL. A 14-person deck crew poured approximately 350 cubic yards of concrete in an initial deck unit placement with a concrete pump truck supplying concrete to the deck finishing machine.

Hal Jones Contractor, a Vecellio Group company, is working with the City of St. Augustine, FL to restore the marina that was significantly damaged by hurricanes. They are currently preparing to install new steel piles, rub boards and bumpers. This upgrade will help the marina better withstand any new storms that may impact the historic city in the future. With two-thirds of the work completed, the final stage will be to demolish and reinstall the remainder of the floating dock system at the marina.

Sharpe Bros. wrapping up multiple resurfacing projects, and Murray Logan’s completion of a new community pump station supporting Avenir, a new residential community in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

As one of the largest producers of limerock aggregates and screenings in Florida, White Rock Quarries ships product throughout the state. Customer service is always a high priority, and White Rock helps to ensure the highest level of service and customer satisfaction with three inbound scales, fast load out times, and six outbound scales. This provides fast turnaround for all customer vehicles.
Also featured in this issue of VanGuard, the Vecellio Group’s award-winning newsmagazine, are Vecellio & Grogan’s “Blockbuster Breakwater” project in Tampa, FL, multiple Ranger Construction projects, and South Florida Materials Corp.’s intern sponsorship for the Port of Palm Beach. The Vecellio Family Foundation scholarship recipients for 2023 are also featured in this issue, along with the recognition of CEO Leo A. Vecellio’s 50-year service anniversary.
Q1/Q2 2023
Ranger Construction is working with the Central Florida Expressway Authority to remove two bridges on FL-528, and reconstruct the roadway with embankment, limerock, and asphalt. The current work is the construction of the median cross-over to divert traffic for the demolition of the bridge. This requires excavation and embankment followed by roadway base and asphalt.

Q4 2022
Sharpe Bros. crews continue work on the Alamance Church Road project in Greensboro, North Carolina. The project includes widening Alamance Church Road, adding a turning lane, sidewalk, upgraded waterline and new storm drainage. Work will continue throughout the winter months as weather allows. Completion of the project is expected later in 2023.
Sharpe has multiple ongoing road construction projects throughout the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina providing grading, utilities, and asphalt paving & resurfacing services. Sharpe Bros. is a Division of Vecellio & Grogan.

Vecellio & Grogan is rebuilding the U.S. 90 bridge over the Simpson River in Pensacola, FL. The project includes the widening of westbound structure, as well as the complete reconstruction of the eastbound portion of the bridge.
The company has a broad portfolio of work throughout the Atlantic states including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Their work includes projects for both public and private customers. Vecellio & Grogan is a heavy highway and bridge construction company.

Murray Logan Construction, a heavy and marine construction company founded in 1968 by Murray D. Logan, became part of the Vecellio Group in late October of 2021.
The company has a broad portfolio of work throughout south-central Florida, including projects for both public and private customers. Its first project as part of the Vecellio Group is a pump station at Avenir, a new 4,752-acre sustainable community located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Vecellio & Grogan is constructing over seven miles of bypass in Rockingham, NC, part of a new four-lane, median-divided freeway (future I-73/I-74 bypass). V&G’s $146-million project includes six box culverts integral to ensuring proper drainage for the new roadway.
Michael Vecellio received a 2021 American Free Enterprise Companion Medal from Palm Beach Atlantic University, which hosts an annual celebration recognizing accomplishments that exemplify this country’s free enterprise system.
