Professor Paul E. Torgersen, an Industrial Engineer whose career at Virginia Tech spans 43 years, including 20 years as a Dean and seven as University President, is the presenter of this year’s Vecellio Lecture, held at the university in October.

Torgersen is a Fellow of both the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the American Society of Engineering Education. An internationally published author, he has also signed 62,191 diplomas during his terms as Dean and President.

The annual lecture series is sponsored by an endowment from the Vecellio Family Foundation and individual family members, in support of the Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program at the school. Several family members are Virginia Tech alumni, including the late Leo Vecellio, Sr. (class of 1938), Leo Vecellio, Jr. (1968) and Michael Vecellio (2001).

The Vecellio endowment also supports scholarships, fellowships and a full professorship at the school.
